Back on The Blueprint Series because we can’t help but call out Girls on the Run KC. This is seriously of the coolest businesses models out there. We are so grateful to have them here in Kansas City, and this organization is run by one of the best non-profit leaders in the city: Gina Lichte.

“Girls on the Run inspires girls to live a more joyful, healthy and confident life,” said Gina in a EP podcast interview last year, “We are working with girls who are 3rd-8th grade in the Kansas City community. We complete our mission with hundreds of volunteers through a 10-week curriculum.”

The Running Program

The 10-week program Gina talks about is offered in the fall and spring. Therefore, you might be a little late to the ball if you try to sign up now. But now is the time to think about the fall if you know a girl in that age range who would benefit from this awesome organization.

Here’s what is included in every program for each girl:

  • 20 lesson conducted by trained Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole coaches
  • All program materials, lap counters, and stickers
  • An official Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole program t-shirt
  • A healthy snack at each practice
  • An entry fee to the Girls on the Run 5K
  • A Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole water bottle
  • A 5K finisher’s medal
  • Friendships, fun, and lessons to last a lifetime

Incredible work they’re doing in KC! And we can imagine as COVID passes and the weather warms up, girls everywhere will need a healthy outlet for exercise and friendship.

“Girls go through activities where they learn about themselves, how to be a good friend, how to stand up for others, and then how to be good citizens where they can give back to the community. They’re learning about kindness and other character qualities through different activities – primarily running – all while training to run a 5k. Therefore, goal setting is a huge part of what we do as well.”

Get Moving

BOOM! This is a program we wish everyone could go through, as it teaches how persevere and chase dreams while growing as a person in the process.

We always say we’re a for-profit company with a non-profit heartbeat. And Gina ensures her team never loses the heartbeat that makes their business so great.

Organizations like Girls on the Run inspire us to strive farther and harder, and there’s no greater lesson than in a pandemic. And as always, you can never run a race alone.

Go like and follow @girlsontherunkc! Get inspired and lace up. No better time than now.
